monday chaos

Everything seems to need to be done on monday morning! Ton's of errands to do and everything seems to work against my efforts to actually acomplish some of them. Post office, bank, pet shop, class, workspace, car dealer, and each place is a simple task made more complicated by inept morons who seem to clog the very arteries of society with their muddling meandering, nonsense. All they do is get in the way of the rest of us. Finally by the end of class, things started to level out a bit and life did not seem so perverse anymore!

Damn! Here it is December and things have just been soo busy! I have several galleries that are
interested in showing/selling my work. They all want it rushed though and I am not ready for that quick a jumpstart! I need some business advice. Also the Co-op upstairs from me wants me to join, but they already have 4 photogs and I don't want to be crowded out or forced to limit what I show.

I missed the entire month of October! I was gone and on the road from the 4th to the 25th, covering about 4000 miles around the entire southeastern USA. Came back to the cool climes of the great northwet, and fell right into the Election-from-hell.
I find it hard to believe that people with any sort of funtional brain could have let themselves vote for that idiot that won. But they did, and they did it in droves.
I guess you can never go wrong by underestimating the intelligence of the american public.
Damn!

Hooop de doo!
It's friday! what does that really mean to me now that I am
retired? It means that Anne will be home after work and we can
spend the entire weekend together! I like that! I plan to get the
lawn mowed today, and hopefully get some photogs of the chickadees
going after the sunflowers as well. There are some interesting mushrooms growing in the front yard and I want to get them as well before they get all yucky!

Dilemma

Y'know how life keeps throwing things at you? Well it seems to be on a fastball track with me
right now! I had the trip down to Napa so my daughter could have a car, carting up a bunch of
my photography to show to a gallery owner, hoping to get a show, and getting the car fixed for my daughter and delivering it. Now I need to consider (strongly suggested) changing the framing of my work, a not insignificant expense. There's a photo meeting in Chatanooga TN that
I really SHOULD consider going to but it would be an expensive trip and certainly if I went that
far I SHOULD also visit relatives in the area, but that would take more time, and even more expense..AND I am still looking at decreased revenues and the ability to actually make it to the
meeting. The meeting would be good professionally, with opportunities to network and perhaps
get some assignment work out of the deal, or at least get more knowledge and marketing strategies. Do I fork out the $$$ from my limited budget for this, perhaps jepordizing the new frames purchase? If I forgo the frames ,will I be able to get a show in a gallery? Even if I get a show, will I have some $$ success and make it all worthwhile, or will my ego get a swift kick in the crotch and leave me doubled over in both mental and fiscal agony? Sometimes even making the decision to make a decision is traumatic!

Well, here goes!
today I go for an "evaluation" at a gallery with the owner. I wonder what will come of it?
It's more than just a little scary to put your art out and have someone else judge your
work's worth. What if she thinks all my work is crap? I'm sure I can handle rejection, but
I'd rather deal with success! If she does not like my stuff will I give up? No! Will I stop
doing photography? NO? It will mean that I'll not have a venue for selling at a place with a
lot of coverage and foot traffic!
Ahh well, off to the colesium....I wonder if I'll be a Christian or a lion today?

Back from California's Napa Valley! I'm happy that I'm not a Californian! The only thing
worse than having Ahhhnald for govenor would be having to live down there with the
huge mass of people! Once you get out of the urban sprawl reach of the Bay area it's not too bad,
in fact, parts of northern California are gorgeous! But overall, the state's just a bit too screwy for my tastes! I did find a few sites I want to go back to in the spring to shoot some large format
landscape work. I'm excited about the gallery evaluation this wednesday in Seattle, if it goes well I might get a show in a gallery with a whole lot of foot traffic...and foot traffic equals visibility and that equals sales and THAT equals $$$!

Here it is the last day of August...and it feels like the end of summer. Not that the
weather is indicative, but the feeling is there just the same. An "ending" sort of feeling,
with a bit of melancholy tossed on top, not serious, but still present.
I'm off to California in the morning early so this will be my last post till I get back.
Now I have to go and decide which cameras I'll be taking along and whether to take a
laptop at all or just load all the cards up. I have tons 0f stuff to finish before I can go
but yesterday's headache took a lot more out of me than I thought. I feel lethargic.
I still have not heard anything about gmail from blogger. I was told that if I started a blog, I'd get an invite...not yet!
If anyone reads this (seeminly not likely) *and* they know how to get a gmail invite, let me know!

Busy busy!

Sometimes life just gets busy all on it's own and you feel more like you're just along for the ride!
Right now that's what I'm feeling like. Tomorrow I have a list of things to get done that is actually longer than my arm! IF I were to figure everything out time and trip wise and had every moment coordinated so I'd not be retracing my steps all day long I might get it all done.
Then I have to make a quick trip down to the Napa region of northern CA for a couple of days.
That will really put a crimp in my plans for getting stuff together for a gallery evaluation on the
8th of Sept. I need to have a little time to concentrate on getting just the right images together for the eval meeting with the gallery owner. If I get a show sometime next year, it would be great as the location is superb and lots and lots of foot traffic goes through the gallery. So if I have so much on my plate why am I here blogging it all down? (is blogging an accepted verb yet?) I dunno, but I can't get most if what needs to be done today because it's Sunday!
I have to grab a camera and get out and shoot some sunflowers before they all go to seed and look like crap! See ya!

Hey! here I am again! Today will be a busy day, I have so much to get done
before the evening! I need to remember to get the 6X10 negs down to processing
so I can see if they even CAN make a neg carrier for it and get me some prints done
today...if not I have to go back up to Seattle and deal with prolab and see which of my
testicles they want to get it done right. God I wish I could make the money they do!
There's a Kerry rally here in Tacoma on Saturday, I think I'll go and try and get some
crowd shots and such for the portfolio, maybe something I can use at the gallery eval later.
I still have not figured out this blog thing entirely yet but I think I may be getting closer to
having a clue! I'm still looking for what the method is for getting a gmail invite from here.

Hmmm, I just read some random blogs and now a wee bit of an idea is forming!
It seems there are bloggers (is that a word now?) from all over the place, not just the
USA! I was reading one from a lady in Egypt ( can you save a bunch of links to "favorite" blogs?)and it occurred to me that I could find good places to go and photograph by reading some interesting blogs! If you live in an interesting place then let me know about it! I'm primarily a nature photographer but I'm interested in most things that get in front of my camera!

Here I am, all alone in my first blog. Who'd think that a 50 something photographer
would want to do this? Perhaps this will just be a place to sort out some of my thoughts
or keep a bit of a journal to rediscover myself. Maybe it will become somewhat of an organizer and help me keep track of all the "stuff" that goes on in my life! Anyway, if you read this and you're not me...I guess I invited you!
